Women’s Health Advocated Through Run
Bhubaneswar news brings attention to an important event where women from South Asia participated in a 5-km run in Chicago, aiming to raise awareness about breast cancer and women's health. Dressed in stunning pink saris, about 100 participants united to advocate for menstrual hygiene and mental health management. This run marked the end of a year-long campaign by the Beautiful Minds Youth Mentoring Foundation, founded by Suchismita Panda, a notable cancer research scientist.
The Significance of Mental Health
During the event, Nishant Sadangi, the youth enrichment director, shared insights on the critical role of mental healthcare. Additionally, Subhendu Sadangi, a board director, introduced a global youth magazine titled 'Unmute,' featuring contributions from youth mentors and mentees around the world.
Community Support and Future Initiatives
This run drew attendance from prominent community figures, including Bolingbrook mayor Mary Alexander-Basta, and South Asian leaders, showcasing immense local support. Panda emphasized the year-long Zoom sessions conducted to educate on women's health, inviting esteemed doctors from both India and the USA.
Engaging the Next Generation
In an effort to further the campaign, an inter-school art competition was held at the Odisha State Museum, themed '#mypinkhealth'. Over 40 students participated, allowing youths to express their concerns about breast cancer and hygiene creatively.
The foundation also organizes vital health camps for girls in Odisha, offering screenings and education on menstrual hygiene while providing sanitary napkins.
