DFES Volunteer Tristan Rausch's Journey

A young Geraldton volunteer has been recognized for his commitment to emergency services, continuous training and operational assistance during coastal erosion.

A Family Legacy of Service

Geraldton's Tristan Rausch, 24, received the Marine Rescue Youth Achievement Award at this year's Western Australian Fire and Emergency Services Awards on Sunday, September 8. Mr. Rausch comes from a family of volunteers and has followed in his father's footsteps, completing 19 training courses, has been endorsed to become a rescue skipper, and sits on the rescue group’s executive committee.

Path to Volunteerism

  • Always around the fire station due to his family's involvement.
  • Joined Marine Rescue Geraldton after completing studies.

The volunteer role has given him self-confidence and pride, while contributing to the community.

Promoting Awareness in the Community

The young volunteer is focusing on promoting the group and bringing awareness to the work being done on the water. However, call outs have been lower than average.

Acknowledgment from DFES

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services awarded Mr. Rausch for his display of maturity, operational assistance, and management support at the event held in Burswood.

DFES commissioner Darren Klemm appreciated the dedication of first responders, especially given the extreme conditions faced in recent years.
