Arriva Expands Train Services from Groningen to Gelderland and Limburg
Arriva Trains Transition to New Regions
Arriva has relocated four trains initially designated for Groningen and Friesland to new territories in Gelderland and Limburg. These trains will now serve routes between Zutphen and Oldenzaal, as well as the Nijmegen-Venray-Roermond line.
Excess Trains in Northern Netherlands
- Arriva identified an excess of trains in Northern Netherlands.
- 69 train sets were available for seven lines in Groningen and Friesland.
- 51 units were of the Spurt type, operational since 2006.
Four Spurt trains are now utilized in different areas where diesel or cleaner fuel is used. This strategic move is due to Arriva's addition of new routes and delayed electrification.
Trains Named After Groningen Figures
- Four trains bear names of notable Groningen figures, including Nobel Prize winners.
- Trains operate between Nijmegen and Roermond, and Zutphen and Oldenzaal.
These trains have undergone reorganization but still maintain service without affecting Northern services. Arriva assures that rail schedules will remain intact.
No Impact on Northern Services
Internal strategies allow for efficient train movements without disturbances to the existing schedules in Northern Netherlands. The province of Groningen has been informed of these changes.
