Duitsland Grenscontroles: Comprehensive Border Checks Announced
Duitsland Grenscontroles - Implementation of Checks
Duitsland is set to temporarily enforce controls at all its land borders. Interior Minister Faeser has announced that passport checks will be conducted to reduce the number of individuals entering the country without a valid visa. This will impact regions such as Enschede, where checks will occur at key locations including:
- A1 near De Lutte
- Denekamp border crossing
- Glanerbrug
- Enschede
The measure is scheduled to commence next Monday and is projected to last for at least six months. The initiative aims to protect Germany against threats such as Islamic terrorism and cross-border crime.
Previous Border Control Measures
In October 2023, Germany had already implemented checks at borders with Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Poland to manage immigration. Notably, since 2015, checks have been ongoing at the Austrian border. Although these controls are officially temporary, they have frequently been extended by Berlin.
During this year’s EK football event in Germany, temporary checks were also instituted at all national borders. Additional details regarding the proposal are yet to be disclosed, with Faeser expected to formally announce the plans shortly.
Reactions From Officials
Minister Marjolein Faber, overseeing Asylum and Migration, intends to discuss how traffic, including freight, can be facilitated despite Germany’s announced border checks. Faber aims to mitigate disruptions caused by these new measures.
