Telenor's Urgent Call for Digital Security Preparedness

The Growing Concern Over Digital Security

Telenor's annual report on digital security reveals increasing public worry, emphasizing that the threat landscape in Europe necessitates readiness for the worst-case scenarios. "We have effective security protocols, and Norwegian critical infrastructure is largely safe. However, we must now prepare for scenarios that were previously unthinkable," stated Telenor Norway's CEO, Birgitte Engebretsen, in a press release.

Survey Insights

A YouGov survey conducted for Telenor in August indicated that six out of ten Norwegians feel Norway is not adequately equipped to withstand a significant digital attack. Almost 70% of respondents also fear that increased digitalization has rendered Norway more vulnerable.

The Evolving Threat Landscape

Engebretsen noted, "New technologies, such as artificial intelligence, offer us opportunities to enhance security but also empower criminals to quickly alter tactics and refine methods to launch targeted attacks against businesses and the general public." Telenor's report, 'Digital Security 2024', outlines shifting threats, indicating that geopolitical tensions and misinformation pose considerable challenges for telecom companies providing critical infrastructure.

Adapting to Changes

"Geopolitical tensions continue to impact our daily lives. The threat landscape can change rapidly and be difficult to predict. This uncertainty is something we must learn to manage, requiring good preparedness, updated situational awareness, and thoughtful solutions," added the CEO.
