Rain played a spoilsport on day 1 of the one-off Test between Afghanistan vs New Zealand at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium in Greater Noida. Despite no rain on matchday, play could not commence because of the poor drainage system and wet outfield.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan management and the players are unhappy with the facilities provided in Noida. An official from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) stated, "There are no facilities. We will never come here again. Our preference will be Lucknow. There is complete mismanagement at the venue. Even the players are not happy with good training facilities and everything."

This is not the first time Afghanistan has faced issues at the Greater Noida Stadium. They last played here in 2020. Notably, the BCCI has designated Greater Noida and Kanpur as home stadiums for Afghanistan. The ACB and BCCI signed a memorandum of understanding in December 2015 to use the Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex as their home ground.

Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi recently emphasized the need for a dedicated home venue in India to facilitate better training and player development "Having a dedicated home venue would greatly assist us in grooming our players," he stated.
