Country music couple Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley admit they are a little nervous about episode one of The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition. The Wang Wauk residents had the times of their lives and met lifelong friends, but they were unapologetically themselves in front of the camera - and that sets the alarm bells ringing.

"I know we're going to cringe when we see ourselves," says Adam. Brooke adds: "Oh we’re gonna cringe so hard!" She speaks from experience, having finished runner-up on I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022. The couple are one of 11 teams competing in the celebrity edition of the much-loved global race to win $100,000 for a chosen charity.

This year’s race kicks off in Argentina and travels to South Africa, Namibia, and Thailand, where each team will have to decipher clues and tackle various challenges to progress to the next stage. Brooke and Adam, who have multiple ARIA awards and Golden Guitars between them, are a hoot. They’ve been married for 15 years, have two children, and they love a laugh, especially if it’s at their own expense.

"The race kicked off in Buenos Aires and I felt right at home because I was born in April ... I was born as Aries," says Adam, pausing for effect. "That’s a good one, hun," replies Brooke, laughing.

They say they had no choice but to be themselves, warts and all, with a camera and audio in their faces all day. "And that’s why we’re nervous! We didn’t exactly go over there in shape either, although round is a shape," says Adam. "We walked past a few windows on the first day in Buenos Aires and I caught a glimpse of myself with a backpack on and my beer gut was sticking out and it was, like, oh dear ... but who knows, it might motivate us to get in shape!" The Amazing Race Australia Celebrity Edition premieres Monday, September 9 at 7.30pm on 10 and 10Play.
