Portugal Witnesses Brazen Jailbreak of Five Dangerous Criminals
On Saturday, five dangerous prisoners escaped from the high-security Vale de Judeus prison, located 30 kilometers from Lisbon in Portugal, according to local authorities. The inmates reportedly used a ladder to climb over the prison wall and received assistance from outside, as reported by news agency Reuters.
The escapees are described as dangerous individuals; local authorities warn the public to stay away from these violent criminals who will do anything to regain their freedom.
The group includes Portuguese national Fernando Ribeiro Ferreira, Argentinian Rodolfo José 'El Ruso' Lohrmann, British Mark Cameron Roscaleer, and originally Georgian Shergili Farjiani. They have been convicted for serious crimes including drug trafficking, theft, robbery, and kidnapping.
Media reports link Lohrmann’s gang to the murder of two children of prominent South American politicians; one of them was reportedly killed on the same evening the family paid a ransom. The failure of the Portuguese state is being criticized, with prison guard union leader Frederico Morais stating that a lack of guards on duty facilitated the escape.
According to British Sky News, prison unions claim that only 20 guards were present—half the normal staffing level—responsible for more than 500 inmates.
