Burgos Initiates Public Contest to Establish Low Emission Zone
On September 6, 2023, Burgos opened the technical and administrative offers for the much-anticipated Low Emission Zone (ZBE). This project, aimed at improving traffic control in the city, has attracted bids from two companies: Etralux and SICE. The municipal technicians are set to evaluate these proposals.
The contest was initiated on an urgent basis on August 18, and firms had until September 2 to submit offers. The financial bids will be disclosed on September 13. Set at €3,550,169, the project budget mirrors that of a previous, failed initiative, yet aims to create a more controlled and monitored area.
Key aspects of the project include installing 22 cameras, updating informational panels, and providing more bike parking to encourage eco-friendly transportation methods.
With an eight-month execution timeframe, the project must wrap before December 31 to justify funding from European sources. Local officials are actively strategizing to safeguard this financial support amid challenges.
According to Mobility Councilor José Antonio López, the administration will fight to prevent any cuts to the allocated European funds, and they are prepared to take legal action if necessary. Urbanism Councilor Juan Manuel Manso expressed optimism about potentially securing an extension, as many municipalities face similar issues.
