Ballon d'Or 2024 nominations have created quite a buzz, unveiling a list of 30 players competing for the coveted award. France Football made the announcement on Wednesday, and it’s clear that this year brings significant changes to the selection process.

Notably, Lionel Messi, who previously won for the eighth time, is missing from the nominations. This marks the second time since 2005 that the Argentinian superstar is absent from the running. Messi, now with Inter Miami, had also missed out last year, despite leading Argentina to a Copa America victory earlier this year.

New Scoring System Introduced

This year, the voting system has changed. Instead of the familiar points system, journalists will award points as follows:

• First place: 15 points
• Second place: 12 points
• Third place: 10 points
• Fourth place: 8 points
• Fifth place: 7 points
• Sixth place: 5 points
• Seventh place: 4 points
• Eighth place: 3 points
• Ninth place: 2 points
• Tenth place: 1 point

The joy doesn't stop with the male category. This year, seven other trophies will be awarded, including the Ballon d'Or Féminin and the Kopa Trophy, aimed at identifying the best under-21 player.
