Major Childcare Projects in Warrnambool

Plans for a new swim school and a 131-place childcare centre have been unveiled for the city of Warrnambool. This exciting initiative includes a development at 28 Aberline Road, just metres from the city's newest childcare centre currently under construction.

Details of the Proposal

  • Location: 28 Aberline Road, opposite Brierly Recreation Reserve sportsground.
  • Project components: A swim school and separate childcare centre under one roof.
  • Parks: The plan includes 53 onsite car parking spaces.

The proposal will be considered by city councillors during their meeting scheduled for September 2, 2024. Significant community interest has been noted, with two objections raised regarding noise and traffic pollution.

Additional Childcare Facilities

The city is experiencing a childcare crisis, with a waiting list that has reached 400. Concurrently, construction of a $7 million childcare centre at the corner of Aberline and Dales roads is underway, expected to create 148 new places for children. Bright Start Childcare is set to open in 12 months.

Moreover, plans for another childcare centre on Moore Street are in the works, which would provide 107 additional spots for families in the community.

The city council will also review plans for a community hub at Brierly Recreation Reserve, intended to cater to soccer, cricket, playgroups, and other community services.
