Kong Harald and Queen Sonja are planned to arrive in Geiranger with Kongeskipet on Friday, as announced by Guri Varpe, communication chief at the Palace. While heading to the 'wedding adventure' in Geiranger this weekend, Kongeskipet KS 'Norge' will stop by several of the Sunnmøre fjords.

Kongen Onboard

Kongeskipet will serve as the residence for the royal couple during Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett's wedding festivities, as stated by the Palace in a press release. According to the Palace’s website, 'when the King is onboard K/S 'Norge', the royal flag flies at the top of the ship's stern.'

  • An image from Synste Møre revealed the royal flag waving at the ship's stern, indicating King Harald is onboard.
  • To the delight of the locals, the royal couple has taken impromptu trips into several fjords on Sunnmøre.

Photos from Møre show residents along Voldsfjorden waving flags to welcome Kongeskipet. 'It's fantastic to get a royal visit in the fjord,' says Sølvi Dimmen, mayor of Volda municipality. 'Although it’s a bit gray today, people are thrilled they are visiting before the wedding.'

  1. Preston marrying the couple is also from Volda.
  2. The mayor emphasizes the 'great positivity' of the royal couple visiting multiple locations en route to the wedding.
  3. Many locals found the unannounced visits very exciting.

Kongeskipet is King Harald's personal ship, operated by the Coast Guard as noted on the royal family's website. The ship was originally a gift from the Norwegian people to the King’s grandfather, King Haakon VII.
