Police have named the man who was fatally stabbed near a tennis club in Auckland's Blockhouse Bay on Saturday. Authorities said formal identification of the victim was completed earlier today.

The victim, Stephen Thorpe, aged 54, of Mt Roskill, was involved in a violent altercation leading to his tragic death. Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin stated that officers are preparing to lift cordons at the crime scene this afternoon, once the examination is completed.

“Our thoughts are with Mr Thorpe’s family following this tragic event,” Baldwin mentioned. Police have been in contact with his immediate family, who reside in Australia, and will keep them updated as the investigation progresses.
