Leicester City Faces Disappointment in 2-1 Loss to Fulham
Match Overview
Leicester City fell to Fulham by a score of 2-1 at Craven Cottage on Saturday. The Cottagers opened the scoring through Emile Smith Rowe early in the first half only to see Wout Faes level the score from a corner before half-time. The Foxes got caught up the pitch midway through the second period, allowing Alex Iwobi to get behind the back line for the winner. I dunno Jamie. He did score our only goal today. In all honesty, the Foxes were second-best all day and can have no complaints about the result.
Game Highlights
City were dominated in all aspects of the match. The hosts kept Leicester penned in their own half for long periods and, when City did get a chance to get forward, they seldom looked threatening. We ended the match with Ayew, Mavididi, Fatawu, and McAteer as our attackers, and you can understand why Cooper wants more options, especially when McAteer was by far the liveliest of the four in the closing minutes.
Defensive Play
It wasn’t all bad, but the good mostly came at the wrong end of the pitch. Going three at the back gave some cover to Kristiansen, who had been struggling with Adama Traore. Of course, most left-backs struggle with the Spanish giant, so there’s no shame in that. Faes, Vestergaard, and Hermansen were all solid. Buonanotte’s cross for Faes’ goal was excellent and...there’s not much else good to say. Vardy might as well have stayed home for all the impact he was allowed to make. Winks was uncharacteristically careless with the ball and put us in some bad positions. It happens. Enzo Maresca was brilliant at keeping Winks’ confidence up after a poor match and it will be critical for Steve Cooper to do the same.
Three Takeaways
- Leicester City: Hermansen, Justin, Faes, Vestergaard, Kristiansen (McAteer), Winks, Ndidi, Fatawu, Buonanotte (Skipp), De Cordova-Reid (Ayew), Vardy (Mavididi)
