Insight into Regionalklassen Kfz Adjustments

How Regionalklassen Affect Your Insurance

  • Offenbach ranks the lowest, followed by Berlin, with damages nearly 40% above average.
  • The Elbe-Elster district boasts the best claims record, at 30% below average.
  • In Bavaria, many districts improved, affecting nearly every fourth driver.

Despite these changes, nation-wide, 49 districts will see deteriorated classifications impacting roughly 4.7 million drivers, while 59 districts will benefit from better regionalklassen.

Insurance companies can apply these new classifications immediately for new contracts and at the next insurance year for existing contracts, though these classifications are not mandatory for premium calculations.

Regional Premium Discrepancies

According to Verivox, a 45-year-old single driver of a VW Passat in Berlin-Mitte pays more than double for liability insurance compared to someone in Emden. In the Nikolassee district, premiums are one-third higher than in the neighboring Kleinmachnow.
