Virat Kohli's Career: Why Bollywood Shouldn't Be the Next Stop
Virat Kohli has won the hearts of millions as one of India’s most celebrated cricketers, and while he has appeared in numerous advertisements, fans have never seen him in an acting role. In a recent interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, renowned casting director Mukesh Chhabra revealed that although Virat is a fantastic actor, he believes the cricketer should never venture into films.
During the interview, when asked about the possibility of Virat pursuing acting after his cricket career, Mukesh was quick to respond, advising against it. “He is already a great actor. He is from Delhi, he is a Punjabi. He has seen that life. He has handled success so beautifully,” Mukesh shared, highlighting Virat’s multifaceted personality.
Mukesh further praised Virat’s personal life, saying, “He is a fan of Chole Bhature, he is a great guy. He appears to be a great husband and a great father.” Mukesh, who met Virat at a party 5-6 years ago, emphasized how Virat has grown into a role model for an entire generation of cricketers. “Today, he is a role model for everybody,” he added.
When discussing Virat’s personality, Mukesh noted that the cricketer is not only talented on the field but also possesses a great sense of humour. “He is so funny. He will dance, mimic, his comic timing is great. He is doing very well in making the country proud, he should stay where he is and not join films,” Mukesh advised, reinforcing his stance that Virat should focus on his cricketing legacy rather than transitioning to films, even after retirement.
Mukesh’s comments come as a surprise given that several cricketers, including Ajay Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, and Sreesanth, have dabbled in acting. However, Mukesh believes Virat’s impact is far more significant in cricket, and his contributions to the sport should remain his primary focus.
Virat, who is married to actress Anushka Sharma, met her on the set of a commercial. The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, is proud parents to daughter Vamika and son Akaay.
