Fulham to Finalize Sander Berge Signing from Burnley

Fulham is close to completing the signing of midfielder Sander Berge from Burnley. The west London club have agreed to pay a fee worth £20 million plus £5 million in potential add-ons. The 26-year-old and his agent Morten Wivestad are travelling to London for a medical on Tuesday before finalizing his move to Craven Cottage. Personal terms with the player are already in place.

Berge's Significance for Fulham

Sander Berge is set to become Fulham's fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of other key players. He would bolster Marco Silva’s midfield options following the expiration of a contract and another player's transfer to Bayern Munich. The Norwegian, who has won 46 caps for his country, had previously been identified as a potential option for other clubs looking for a defensive midfielder.

Previous Clubs and Journey

Berge played no part in either of Burnley’s opening two games of the Premier League campaign under new head coach Scott Parker, who replaced Vincent Kompany earlier this summer. He made 37 appearances last term as Burnley was relegated from the Premier League. The midfielder joined Turf Moor from Sheffield United last summer, signing a four-year contract. He arrived in English football from Belgian side Genk in 2020, eventually making 109 appearances for the Blades.

Having started his youth career at Asker in Norway, he moved to Valerenga in 2015 before switching to Genk in 2017. Fulham kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Manchester United and will next play against newly-promoted opponents on Saturday.
