St. Anton Faces Major Travel Disruption Due to Arlberg Pass Closure

St. Anton is in turmoil for summer travelers as a landslide has led to the indefinite closure of the Arlberg Pass road (B197). Affected individuals traveling between Tirol and Vorarlberg will need to endure lengthy detours due to this blockade. Repair efforts are ongoing, but there is currently no estimated reopening time for this vital connection.

Arlberg Pass Closed Indefinitely

The Arlberg Pass remains blocked after a mudslide occurred on August 16, severely damaging the road. While remedial work is underway, the situation is evaluated daily to determine when a single-lane, signal-controlled opening might be possible.

Arlberg Tunnel Also Closed

Adding to the inconvenience, the Arlberg Tunnel on the S16 motorway, which serves as the main link between Tirol and Vorarlberg, will be closed for renovation until November 2024. As a result, travelers must find alternative routes, heading through Reutte and Lechtal before connecting back to Stuben, or opting for the toll road Silvretta High Alpine Road (B188).
