The fire began around midday in the west wing of Somerset House, a well-known cultural landmark in London. The director of Somerset House Trust, Jonathan Reekie, confirmed the incident, stating, “What I can confirm is that a fire was spotted at about midday in one corner of west wing.” He assured the public that no artworks were compromised as the affected area mainly consists of offices and back-of-house facilities.

Emergency Response and Safety

Immediate actions included evacuating the building and alerting the London Fire Brigade, who arrived swiftly on the scene. Reekie noted, “Everybody is safe and for now we want to let the London Fire Brigade get on and do their brilliant work.” Passers-by were seen observing the situation while enjoying their lunch.
