New York Magazine announced Monday that it is parting ways with star political reporter Olivia Nuzzi, following her previously undisclosed personal relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. This relationship led to an investigation into her work during the 2024 campaign.

The Investigation

Conducted by the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, the investigation reached the same conclusion as the magazine’s initial internal review of her published work, finding no inaccuracies nor evidence of bias. New York Magazine stated that the two parties agreed to part ways, praising Nuzzi as a uniquely talented writer.

Nuzzi's Statement

In a statement to Vanity Fair, Nuzzi’s attorney, Ari Wilkenfeld, asserted that she is “gratified though not surprised” by the investigations' outcomes, affirming that her reporting was sound and without wrongdoing. Nuzzi had been placed on leave a month prior after revealing her personal relationship with Kennedy.

Context of the Relationship

Nuzzi clarified that the relationship was not physical but should have been disclosed to eliminate any appearance of conflict. While previously covering the subject, she distanced her reporting from Kennedy during their relationship. Kennedy’s spokesperson claimed that Nuzzi only met Robert F. Kennedy Jr. once during an interview that resulted in a negative portrayal of him.

Nuzzi authored a profile on Kennedy titled: “The Mind-Bending Politics of RFK Jr.’s Spoiler Campaign.” The profile examined Kennedy’s political stance, noting his endorsements in the presidential race.
