Südafrika: Rising Tensions as Nordkorea Plans Destruction of Key Roads
Südafrika Bracing for Potential Attacks
Südafrika's military has noticed signs that Nordkorea is getting ready to execute the blowing up of inner-Korean road connections. The spokesperson for the General Staff indicated during a briefing in Seoul, according to the Yonhap news agency, that Nordkorea has already installed relevant barriers on the northern side of the border connections.
The explosions could take place today, reports suggest. Previously, on Wednesday, Nordkorea stated its intention to permanently cut all road and railway links with Südafrika. This decision is justified by the need for national security protection and to prevent war.
According to the South Korean military, Nordkorea has also laid tens of thousands of land mines along the border area in recent months. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have notably increased. Over the weekend, Nordkorea accused the south of sending unmanned drones three times with anti-North Korean flyers to Pyongyang. Südafrika has not confirmed this.
