Sancta Opera Shocks Audience

MUNICH, Germany — A night at the opera conjures images of elegant outfits and spectacular vocals. However, at a German opera house, 18 audience members required medical treatment after watching recent performances of the sancta opera. These performances featured explicit lesbian sex scenes, piercing, and lots of blood. The affected individuals were attended to by visitor services trained in first aid after feeling sick or dizzy. Some even fell unconscious due to the intense visuals.

Critical Reception and Background

The sancta opera, which premiered at the Mecklenburg state theatre in Schwerin in May, is a new adaptation of the controversial 1920s opera Sancta Susanna. It chronicles the story of a nun facing her repressed desires. In this modern interpretation, nuns roller-skate on a half-pipe, and there are vivid depictions of crucified unclothed bodies.

According to Sebastian Ebling, spokesman for the Stuttgart State Opera, they were not aware of any specific complaints about the performance from audience members. However, severe backlash was noted on social media and via email. Many of the critics had not even attended the performance themselves, Ebling clarified.
