Around 8:30 a.m., a school bus was traveling west on the 3300 block of 133rd Avenue in unincorporated Crown Point. The bus swerved off the road, struck a mailbox, and subsequently veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a Ford Edge SUV.

Victim and Injuries

  • The SUV driver, identified as 53-year-old Lisa Smith, was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
  • Only two individuals were on the bus at the time: the driver and a bus monitor.
