Violent Incident at Junior Football Match

On Sunday afternoon, just after 14:15, a violent altercation occurred at the Spiegelfeld sports ground in Binningen BL involving several youths. According to initial findings from the Basel-Landschaft police, a verbal dispute erupted between the players of two youth teams following a match. This escalated quickly, leading to physical attacks among the youths.

The altercation involved juniors from SC Binningen and the visiting team, AS Timau Basel. During the brawl, an 18-year-old man suffered a serious head injury and required transportation to the hospital by emergency services.

As the exact circumstances of the altercation remain unclear, police are seeking witnesses. Anyone who observed or recorded the incident is urged to contact the Basel-Landschaft police's operations center in Liestal at 061 553 35 35.

In response to the incident, FC Binningen, through a communiqué, distanced itself from any violence and defended its players: “Based on current knowledge, we believe that none of our juniors applied intentional or deliberate physical violence. One of our players was attacked by multiple opponents after a verbal dispute and incurred significant head injuries.”

The injured player reportedly attempted to mediate when he was attacked and was subsequently pursued across the field while being assaulted, leading to the severe injuries that required hospital treatment.
