Hochwasser Dresden Aktuell: Understanding the Current Situation
Hochwasser Dresden Aktuell: Current Water Levels Rising
Dresden (dpa) - The Elbe river in Dresden is experiencing a gradual increase in water levels, approaching the six-meter mark. As of Tuesday morning, the water measured 5.86 meters at the Dresden gauge (as of 07:00), according to data from the Saxon Flood Center. It is anticipated that the alert level 3 could still be reached, which is triggered when the water level exceeds six meters. For context, normal water levels are around 1.42 meters. During the great flood of 2002, the high point reached 9.40 meters. Currently, alert level 2 is in effect.
Hydrologists’ Assessments Provide Hope
On Monday, scientists predicted a less severe development of the hochwasser situation along the Elbe than previously feared. Hydrologists assessed that the Elbe is unlikely to reach alert level 4 at either the Schöna or Dresden gauges. As of Tuesday morning, Schöna, situated near the Czech border, maintained alert level 3 with water levels at 6.31 meters (as of 07:00).
