Walgreens Closes Most Locations on Thanksgiving for 2023
Walgreens Shuts Down Majority of Stores on Thanksgiving
Walgreens is set to close the majority of its nearly 9,000 stores in the United States and Puerto Rico on Thanksgiving Day, which falls on Nov. 28 this year. Only 500 locations, including 300 pharmacies within 24-hour stores, will remain open. This choice, made for the second consecutive year, allows employees some much-needed time with their families.
Continuing Operations in Essential Areas
A small number of Walgreens distribution centers and essential facilities will operate on Thanksgiving to maintain supply chain readiness. This ensures that healthcare and convenience services remain available leading into the holiday weekend.
- Walgreens reinforces commitment to employee well-being.
- Feedback from employees influenced the decision.
- Continuing to provide service for patients and customers.
Tracey D. Brown, Walgreens executive VP, stated, “This is just one of the ways we’re acknowledging the dedication of our team members who tirelessly deliver incredible service every day.” Walgreens will open on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, maintaining its service during the holiday period.
