MTA Installs Bus Lane Cameras: Here’s Where in NYC
New Bus Lane Cameras Rolled Out by MTA
NEW YORK (PIX11) – The MTA has expanded its automated enforcement by installing bus lane cameras on 20 more routes across New York City. This initiative aims to improve public transit efficiency by penalizing drivers who block bus lanes or stops. Starting on Sept. 16, drivers caught in violation will receive warnings for a 60-day period.
Details of the Enforcement Rollout
After the warning period, violators will face fines beginning at $50, which can escalate to $250 for repeat offenses. The MTA had previously commenced ticketing for blocking bus stops along 14 routes starting Aug. 19; this new addition raises the number of enforced routes to 34.
Upcoming Route Changes
- Starting on Sept. 30, ten additional routes will join the enforcement program.
By the end of the month, approximately 1,000 buses will be equipped with the newly installed camera technology, ensuring compliance and improving traffic flow for public transportation.
