iscovered by a local resident in Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) on March 30, 2024, a skull was identified to belong to Emile, the 2.5-year-old child missing since July 8, 2023. Days later, additional clothing, shoes (without laces), and other remains were found during investigations conducted mainly by the National Gendarmerie's Criminal Research Institute (IRCGN). All these materials were sent in June to the private laboratory of medical-legal hematology in Bordeaux for further analysis beyond those performed by the IRCGN. Now, focus shifts to the synthesis of findings, expected to be wrapped up in the next two weeks. The complete report should likely be delivered to investigating judges by the end of September. Will this contain crucial elements for the inquiry? Can it prompt notable advancements in the investigation work? Answers to these questions could soon be forthcoming. For now, no hypothesis can seemingly be ruled out regarding the little Emile's cause of death. Did he stray into treacherous nature areas where fatigue could have led to his demise or an injury he sustained?
- Was he prey to a wild animal?
- Was he a victim of voluntary or involuntary homicide, with the body concealed by the possible perpetrator?
Results from the expert analyses could help support one theory while dismissing others.
