Fall Illnesses Emerge After DMK Event in Madurai
Fall illness struck when over 100 people, including 40 children, fell sick after consuming biryani at an event organised by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu on Friday.
The incident occurred after party cadres held a general meeting for members and distributed welfare items to the public. Biryani was served to the attendees, with some taking it home to share with their families.
Shortly after eating the biryani, more than a hundred people reported symptoms of vomiting and nausea. They were rushed to the Villur Primary Healthcare Centre. As the number of affected individuals increased, 10 ambulances were called in to transport patients to healthcare centres in Virudhunagar and Kallikudi, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Hospital sources indicated that the patients had consumed stale food, leading to food poisoning. Thirumangalam Police have launched an investigation into the incident, with further enquiries underway.
