Voss Tecklenburg’s Career Dynamics

Frankfurt /Main (dpa) - Former Bundestrainerin Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is firmly committed to her job search within Germany. She recently declined three job offers, stating, "I don’t want to go abroad. It doesn’t fit my current life situation. I enjoy spending time with family, which I’ve missed over the past 40 years." These sentiments were shared during an interview with the Swiss newspaper Blick.

Navigating Mental Health Challenges

Voss-Tecklenburg's recent health struggles, which led to her resignation as Bundestrainerin, have greatly influenced her future plans. She reflects, "I realized I don’t want certain things anymore. Ten years ago, I would have signed anything to be a coach again, regardless of location or conditions."

Considering Consultancy Over Coaching

Although she does not completely rule out a return to coaching, she emphasizes that it’s not a necessity. “I don’t need to be in the spotlight anymore. I now face questions I didn’t even consider before my 40s. How much pressure do I want in my life?” Thanks to her extensive experience, she is also open to considering a role as a consultant.

A Journey of Recovery

It has been just over a year since Voss-Tecklenburg faced a breakdown following the unsuccessful World Cup in Australia. Now, she feels revitalized, stating, “My joy for life is back.” Reflecting on the summer of 2023, she shares, “I was crying continuously, couldn’t think straight or answer questions. I felt empty.”

Mental Health Advocacy

Voss-Tecklenburg hopes to raise awareness about mental illness, asserting that it deserves the same recognition as physical ailments. “There was a time when it was dismissed as a trend. People thought I was simply not resilient enough,” she concluded.
