Maori Language Week Inspires Delicious New Hāngī Pizza Creation
Maori Language Week Unveils Hāngī Pizza
As Maori Language Week begins, Hell Pizza and Hāngī Master have joined hands to create a delicious new offering: the hāngī pizza. Titled "Unearthed," this pizza features a blend of traditional Maori flavors with modern pizza techniques.
Unique Ingredients and Authentic Cooking
The hāngī pizza includes an array of ingredients such as pork belly, kumara, a pumpkin and kawakawa puree, along with smoky stuffing. Rewi Spraggon, founder of Hāngī Master, emphasized the importance of cooking these ingredients authentically at his Auckland hāngī pits before freezing and shipping them to Hell Pizza locations.
Accessibility of Maori Cuisine
According to Spraggon, collaborating with a popular pizza outlet makes this traditional Maori dish more accessible to a wider audience. "This is the oldest dish in New Zealand, and a lot of people don’t get to try proper hāngī tuturu," he stated. The hāngī pizza is available at all Hell Pizza stores starting this Friday, offering a unique opportunity to share authentic kai with whānau.
