Violence Erupts Among Flamengo Supporters

On Sunday afternoon, two Flamengo fans were shot at the Irajá metro station in North Rio de Janeiro. The injured fans received immediate help from emergency services and were transported to the Irajá Health Unit. Police from the 41st BPM were alerted to the sighting of two injured men entering the health facility.

Witnesses informed authorities that they were at the metro station with other supporters when unidentified individuals in a vehicle opened fire. The incident has been forwarded to the 27th DP for further investigation. As of now, there is no information regarding the health status of the victims.

Consequences of Fan Violence

  • In addition to the shooting, two more individuals were injured during violent altercations among fans in Tanque, West Rio.
  • Following the chaos, ten people were detained, and security was intensified in the area.
  • Significant confrontations also took place in the São Luís neighborhood of Duque de Caxias.

During these operations, military personnel conducted a raid with an armored vehicle, apprehending 12 suspects along with wooden sticks, a knife, and an explosive device.

Law Enforcement Response

Three other involved individuals are being held at Moacyr do Carmo Hospital. Footage captured by residents shows a military vehicle advancing towards the group of supporters to disperse the crowd.

According to the police, up to this point, 31 supporters have been detained, and weapons were seized ahead of the highly anticipated match between Flamengo and Vasco set for 6:30 PM on the same day at the Maracanã Stadium.

The police force has deployed over 700 military officers to ensure public safety, functioning both in ordinary service and in additional operations specifically for the match's security. Drones equipped with facial recognition technology are being used in hopes of swiftly identifying and capturing fugitives.
