Newcastle United Unveils 25-Man Premier League Squad for 2024/25 Season

Newcastle United has officially submitted its 25-man squad list for the first half of the 2024/25 Premier League season, as the club announced on September 13. The list limits teams to no more than 25 players, with a maximum of 17 who do not meet the home-grown player criteria. Included in the Magpies squad are summer signings Lloyd Kelly, John Ruddy, and Odysseas Vlachodimos. Defenders Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles, both currently recovering from long-term injuries, have also been named and remain eligible to return to action before January with their comebacks expected to happen before the new calendar year. Notably—and certainly embarrassingly—Newcastle’s roster includes five goalkeepers: Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, Mark Gillespie, Vlachodimos, and Ruddy. This makes up 20 percent of the senior squad, reflecting on the mediocre transfer window the club just experienced and its failure to land a proper center-back—read: Marc Guehi—that could have helped remove one of those fine five men from the list. Moving on, younger players like Lewis Miley, Trevan Sanusi, and Alex Murphy, as well as first-team signings Lewis Hall and William Osula, were not required to be listed due to their age, keeping them eligible to play despite not being named in the 25-man squad. The squad list will be reassessed in January, with potential changes based on player fitness and any winter transfer arrivals and departures.
