Max Verstappen and several other Formula 1 competitors find themselves under inquiry for overtaking during a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) period after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. In Baku, a crash occurred on the penultimate lap between Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz, littering debris across the track and prompting the deployment of a medical car as a precaution.

The VSC, which prohibits any overtaking, was enforced until after the chequered flag. Notably, Red Bull driver Verstappen was observed overtaking George Russell of Mercedes and Lando Norris from McLaren. After the race, Verstappen was called by the stewards due to his actions during the VSC, a standard practice according to him.

Verstappen, who ended up finishing fifth with a challenging Red Bull, expressed his surprise at the inquiry regarding what he thought was normal racing conduct.
