Sitaram Yechury's Last Journey: A Farewell at CPI(M) HQ
New Delhi: Chanting ‘Lal Salaam’ and ‘Long Live Sitaram’, comrades, friends, and admirers bid farewell to CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Saturday. His body was handed over to AIIMS for research and studies. A large crowd marched from AKG Bhavan, the party headquarters, to Ashoka Road-Jantar Mantar where family and party leaders transported him to AIIMS.
Yechury’s family members, including his journalist-wife Seema Chisti and children Akhila and Danish, accompanied the ambulance. Friends and CPI(M) workers marched alongside, all honoring the life and legacy of Yechury, who played a significant role in bringing the opposition together.
Celebrated Tribute by Political Leaders
His body, wrapped in the party flag, was brought from his Vasant Kunj residence to AKG Bhavan at 11 AM to allow the public to pay homage to their leader. Notable figures, including former Congress president Sonia Gandhi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, were among the first to pay their respects. Politicians from various parties, including Congress and Tamil Nadu leaders, also honored Yechury's contributions.
