Caitlin Clark Sets New WNBA Assists Record

Caitlin Clark added another milestone to her historic rookie campaign by breaking the WNBA single-season assists record in the Indiana Fever’s 78-74 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Friday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark entered the game needing just four assists to match the previous record of 316 set by Connecticut Sun guard Alyssa Thomas in 2023. She achieved the new record in the second quarter with an inbounds pass to teammate Kelsey Mitchell, who scored the bucket.

Clark finished the game with 18 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds, while Mitchell led Indiana with 20 points. Clark's accomplishment contributes to her remarkable season, which includes setting the WNBA’s single-game assist record with 19 assists against the Dallas Wings in July, as well as the rookie assists record last month.

Overcoming Adversity

Despite trailing 43-35 at halftime, Clark fired up in the third quarter with 14 points, narrowing the margin to three. The Fever had a chance to tie the game late in the fourth quarter, but a missed three-point shot by Aliyah Boston sealed their fate.

Clark emphasized the significance of her record-breaking night and reflected on the competitive spirit in the league this season. “You’re going to continue to see records be taken down, but also really good basketball,” Clark stated. The Fever, remaining in sixth place, are set to face Dallas next.
