University of Arizona Safety Survey Highlights Top Student Safety Issues
Campus Safety Concerns at the University of Arizona
The University of Arizona sent out a safety survey for students and faculty to respond to in Spring of 2024. Those results recently came out, revealing:
- Most are concerned with inadequate lighting and unfamiliar people around.
- Significant concerns were raised about safety in parking garages and busy intersections, especially at night.
- Nearly 3/4 of respondents believe that spreading Sexual Assault (SA) Awareness and Prevention Programming should be a top priority.
- The majority support physical security upgrades around campus, such as security cameras and restricted access to buildings.
Tatum Hickey, completing her first year at the U of A, shares her approach when walking at night: “If I am going out at night, I tend to walk on the campus, not outside the campus. I feel like I put myself in a better situation if I'm walking on campus.”
