Erdogan to Host Investment Talks in New York
The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is preparing to meet with leading business figures from the United States this month in New York to draw investors back to the country’s markets.
The primary organizer of the meetings is the Turkey-US Business Council (TAIK), and according to sources familiar with the plans, Erdogan and his accompanying delegation will attempt to influence investors and company executives at least four events scheduled to coincide with the UN General Assembly in the last week of September.
Key Meetings with Fortune 100 Executives
According to TAIK's information provided to the Financial Times, Erdogan will host a roundtable meeting on September 23 with executives from 20 Fortune 100 US companies.
Insider reports indicate that high-level executives from Wall Street banks like JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs are on the participation list.
Goldman Sachs will host a Turkish investment conference the following day, featuring discussions by Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek and Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan. Companies listed in Istanbul are also expected to hold investor meetings at side events related to this conference.
Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and Industry Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır will also host discussions organized by TAIK and Citigroup.
The Financial Times noted that JPMorgan, Goldman, and Citi have declined to comment on the matter.
