Emma Roberts Discusses The O.C. Audition Miss and Her Mother's Influence
Emma Roberts Reflects on her O.C. Audition Opportunity
Emma Roberts still hasn’t gotten over missing out on a chance to be part of The O.C., and she blames her mom for it. In an interview with NYLON while speaking to Tell Me Lies star Grace Van Patten, the 33-year-old actress revealed that she once had the opportunity to audition for the role of Kaitlin Cooper, Marissa Cooper’s younger sister, on the iconic series, which aired from 2003 to 2007.
Emma's Fond Memories of The O.C.
“I used to rewatch The O.C. before each new season dropped because I was obsessed with it. I wanted to understand every single detail,” Roberts shared. “But I wasn’t allowed to watch it when it first aired. My mom thought it was too inappropriate.”
Recasting of Kaitlin Cooper
Fans of the show might recall that Kaitlin Cooper was portrayed by two different actresses throughout the series. Shailene Woodley originally played the role in season 1, but the character was later recast, with Willa Holland taking over as a more mature Kaitlin in the third and fourth seasons.
Roberts Keeps Busy with New Projects
As for Roberts, she’s keeping busy with multiple projects, including executive producing Tell Me Lies and a new show called Calabasas with her American Horror Story: Delicate co-star Kim Kardashian. She described Calabasas as a blend of The O.C. and Pretty Little Liars, “Yes, Kim and I are executive producing a show for Netflix called Calabasas,” Roberts said on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight With Jessica Shaw. “We have the amazing Marlene King, who did Pretty Little Liars as our showrunner. I’ve always been obsessed with her and Pretty Little Liars. I remember watching that show and thinking, ‘I wish I was on that show.’ It was just so cool and fun.” Roberts added, “There’s not much I can share yet, but I really feel like this show could be the next The O.C. with a bit of Pretty Little Liars mixed in. Kim and I are just two Calabasas girls going back to our roots.”
