Envision Energy, the Chinese renewable energy giant, is set to transform Spain’s green energy landscape with a groundbreaking investment of US$1 billion in a green hydrogen industrial park.

Partnership for Progress

In collaboration with the Spanish government and local industrial sectors, the project will focus on the production of electrolysers, which are essential for generating green hydrogen. This clean fuel can power vehicles and produce electricity, marking a significant leap towards achieving renewable energy goals.

According to Zhang Lei, founder of Envision Energy, “With its ideal resources, market scale, and expertise, Spain is well-positioned to lead in green hydrogen.” This ambitious plan follows an agreement made during Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s recent visit to China.

A Competitive Landscape

The race to dominate the green hydrogen industry is on, with China and over 40 other countries vying for a stake. As the world's largest producer of wind and solar energy, China aims to leverage its low-cost production of electrolysers to emerge as a leading exporter.

The construction of this facility is scheduled for the first half of 2026, marking a significant advancement in Spain's plans for green hydrogen adoption and a move towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 23% by 2030.
