Alibaba's Strategic Move in E-Commerce Logistics

Alibaba’s Cainiao Smart Logistics Network has launched a next-day delivery service catering to European Union countries, affirming its international ambitions. This service, priced at just €2 (approximately US$2.20), facilitates swift parcel deliveries to key markets like Spain and Portugal, announced during the 2024 Smart Global Logistics Summit held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.

Global E-Hubs Development

Additionally, Cainiao is creating a second series of global e-commerce logistics hubs, termed e-hubs, designed as a collective infrastructure to support various e-commerce platforms, brands, and merchants. Joe Tsai, Chairman of Alibaba and Cainiao, emphasized the criticality of supply chain logistics in e-commerce, highlighting Alibaba's full support for Cainiao’s expansive network.

Responsive Logistics Approach

This initiative stems from a strategy to enhance Cainiao’s capabilities to meet the evolving needs of global customers and partners. The e-hub network across the EU is geared towards achieving global deliveries within 72 hours. Spain stands out as a significant hub, owing to its upgraded Madrid distribution centre, capable of processing 40,000 orders an hour.

Conclusion: Embracing Europe’s E-Commerce Future

With Alibaba's push into Europe following its subdued domestic growth, these logistical advancements are poised to revolutionize the European e-commerce landscape. As online shopping continues to thrive, especially via platforms like AliExpress and Alibaba.com, the potential for growth remains immense, marking a pivotal moment in international trade.
