Cyber Security Innovations: Insights from ISRO Chairman on Data Protection and Threats

Cyber Security: A New Era of Protection

Bengaluru: In this era, where infrastructure built over the years is vulnerable to cyber attacks, it is essential to create an ecosystem tailored to develop cyber security tools and solutions, stated Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S. Somanath on Thursday. He inaugurated 'Cyber Nalanda,' a cutting-edge research and development center specializing in cyber security, conceptualized by SISA, a global forensics-driven cyber security solutions company based in Bengaluru.

Somanath reflected on his career, noting how he transitioned from a time when security mainly entailed anti-virus software to today's reality where cyber threats encompass more than just personal data theft. These threats now pose risks to national security as well, given that ISRO's major missions, such as Chandrayaan and Gaganyaan, are often controlled from around the world, making them susceptible to attacks.

A Hub for Cyber Security Development

As part of its mission, Cyber Nalanda aims to emerge as a global hub for cyber security innovation through collaboration with academia. Dharshan Shanthamurthy, CEO & founder of SISA, emphasized the increasing risks fueled by rapid advancements in technologies like AI, robotics, 6G, and quantum computing.

Recognizing the global shortage of 3.5 million unfilled cyber security jobs, Cyber Nalanda will also provide accredited certification programs to prepare the next generation of cyber security professionals. To reinforce its commitment, SISA plans to allocate 10% of its annual revenue to research and development.
