BSNL News: Young Executives Leaving at Alarming Rates

The recent trend of resignations amongst young executives at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is causing significant concern. According to the All India Graduate Engineers & Telecom Officers Association (AIGETOA), this mass exodus poses a serious threat to the operational stability of the government-owned telecom company. In a letter dated August 30, 2024, Ravi Shil Verma, General Secretary of AIGETOA, expressed deep alarm regarding this situation.

Systemic Issues within BSNL HR Policies

Verma attributes the rising number of resignations to systemic issues in BSNL HR policies, including poor working conditions and unfulfilled 30% superannuation benefits. "A large number of talented young executives have recently resigned, opting to join the Airports Authority of India. These executives have been pillars of strength for BSNL," he stated.

  • Delay in promotion policy implementation affecting career growth
  • Single promotion over a 20-year service tenure
  • Demotivating lateral entry policies for new positions

Urgent Requests for Reforms

AIGETOA's demands include scrapping the SET and DR DGM RRs, allowing for a restoration of vacancies in the promotional quota. Furthermore, they insist on implementing the 3rd Pay Revision Committee in alignment with industry standards to help retain talent.

Verma cautions that if these pressing matters are not addressed, BSNL could face further attrition, which it cannot afford at this critical juncture. The association also calls for updates to travel allowances and medical coverage measures to reflect the current economic climate.
