BSNL Faces Significant Threat to Stability as Young Executives Exit
BSNL News: Young Executives Departing
NEW DELHI: The recent wave of resignations of young executives at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is alarming and poses a significant threat to the operational stability and future growth of the government-owned telecom PSU, an employees’ association has said.
Ravi Shil Verma, General Secretary of the All India Graduate Engineers & Telecom Officers Association (AIGETOA), in a letter to Robert J Ravi, CMD of BSNL, attributed the exodus to various systemic issues within BSNL HR policies, including working conditions and unfulfilled 30% superannuation benefits. “We express our deep concern over the recent wave of resignations from BSNL. A large number of talented young executives have recently resigned, opting to join the Airports Authority of India. The officers who have left have been the pillars of strength for BSNL,” Verma stated in his letter.
Concerns and Recommendations
- A significant delay in implementing a comprehensive promotion policy has left many executives without clear career growth opportunities.
- Technically qualified, trained, and performing executives are extended only a single promotion in their service tenure of over 20 years.
- The lateral entry of executives at higher levels without adequate promotion options is another demotivating factor.
AIGETOA requests the scrapping of certain recruitment rules to restore vacancy quotas, emphasizing the need for BSNL to implement the 3rd PRC in line with industry standards to retain talent. “If these pressing matters are not addressed, it will lead to further attrition, which BSNL cannot afford,” added Verma.
