L&T Construction Leverages 3D Printing Technology for Enhanced Efficiency
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction is harnessing 3D printing technology to slash construction timelines by up to 50 percent, according to MV Satish, Executive Committee Member and Advisor to the Chairman and Managing Director (Buildings and Factories).
The 3D printing technology involves the use of a robotic concrete printer to create structures from computer-aided designs (CAD), eliminating the need for traditional formwork. This enables the creation of complex designs with precision and efficiency based on digital models.
Satish noted that while construction costs remain relatively unchanged, the adoption of 3D printing reduces labor costs by as much as about 50 percent as the technology minimizes the need for traditional labor, particularly for formwork and scaffold erection.
