The Surprising Demand for a New Dino Crisis

Shinji Mikami, the founder of iconic titles like Resident Evil and Dino Crisis, has recently voiced his confusion regarding Capcom fans' persistent desire for a new Dino Crisis game. During an interview with Eurogamer, he mentioned, “I’m very surprised to hear that.” Mikami explained that he believes Monster Hunter has effectively addressed the demand for dinosaur action in gaming.

Monster Hunter vs. Dino Crisis

Since the last Dino Crisis was released in 2003, interest in the franchise has not faded. In fact, a survey conducted by Capcom revealed that fans are overwhelmingly in favor of a new installment. Mikami pointed out that Monster Hunter has set a high bar, stating, “The awesomeness of dinosaurs…has been really nailed down by Monster Hunter.”

Exoprimal's Role

When discussing Exoprimal, another dinosaur-themed game from Capcom released in 2023, Mikami acknowledged its difference from Dino Crisis but noted the expectations of fans. “I guess the fans got their expectations up, but here we are,” he added.

Currently, Shinji Mikami leads his own independent studio, KAMUY, after parting ways with his previous company in 2023. While fans may continue to wish for Dino Crisis, it's clear that Mikami has a different perspective on what the gaming landscape requires.
