Illegal Telecom Exchange Busted

The Maharashtra ATS has made headlines for busting an illegal telephone exchange in Kondhwa, Pune. The operation was uncovered because it was used for routing internet-based international calls that cleverly bypassed the regular cellular networks in India.

Details of the Operation

  • The raid occurred on Aug 24 and 25 at a rented flat in MA complex, Meethanagar.
  • Officials seized critical equipment, including seven SIM boxes, 3,788 SIM cards, nine Wi-Fi routers, SIM box antennae, and laptops.
  • A suspect, Naushad Ahmed Siddiqui, was arrested and identified.

Siddiqui, a 32-year-old HSC passout from Uttar Pradesh, had concealed his operations by claiming to be a painter. He had recently moved to Pune to run the illegal facility. Authorities have registered a case against him under Section 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Indian Telegraph Act.
