In a new report from Bankrate, a staggering 48 percent of Americans are contemplating leaving their jobs within the next year. What stands out is that Generation Z, those born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, is at the forefront of this potential wave of resignations.

Resignation Rates Across Generations

  • 39 percent of Gen Z workers plan to quit shortly.
  • Only 25 percent of the overall workforce shares this sentiment.
  • In contrast, only 29 percent of millennials, 19 percent of Generation X, and a mere 11 percent of baby boomers expressed similar intentions.

Conducted by YouGov for Bankrate, the survey—which included 2,326 U.S. adults, with 1,124 currently in full-time employment or seeking it—occurred from July 23 to 25, 2024. According to Mark Hamrick, Bankrate's senior economic analyst, the evolving demands for higher pay and flexible work conditions will play a crucial role in this changing landscape.
