Biomanufacturing Policy and Innovation in India
NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet has given its nod to a transformative biotech policy for high-performance biomanufacturing known as BioE3. This significant move aims to propel innovation-driven support within the bio-economy, focusing on green growth. Alongside this, they approved the continuation of three vital schemes for R&D, technology deployment, and capacity-building under the unified scheme dubbed 'Vigyan Dhara'.
Goals of the New Biomanufacturing Policy
The BioE3 initiative is set to steer India towards its ambitious 'net zero' emissions goal by 2070, with a proposed implementation outlay exceeding Rs 10,579 crore from 2021-22 to 2025-26. By merging existing schemes, the government aims to boost efficiency in fund usage and synchronization among sub-schemes.
- Focus on high-value bio-based chemicals
- Development of Bio-AI hubs
- Emphasis on precision biotherapeutics
- Investment in climate-resilient agriculture
- Encouragement of carbon capture technology
This policy not only fosters entrepreneurship in biomanufacturing but also promotes commercial applications, helping to establish Biofoundries across the nation.
