Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Sees Vast Increase in Subscribers

According to the latest report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the nation has witnessed unprecedented growth in both internet and broadband subscriptions. With 7.3 crore new internet subscribers added, the total has escalated to 95.4 crore, marking an annual growth of 8.3%.

Broadband Subscribers Surge

  • Broadband services have made significant strides, increasing from 84.6 crore to 92.4 crore, illustrating a robust growth rate of 9.15%.
  • This growth highlights the strong demand for high-speed connectivity in the country.

Data and Telephone Usage Trends

  1. Wireless data subscribers rose impressively from 84.6 crore to 91.3 crore, indicating a growth of 7.93%.
  2. Total wireless data consumption escalated from 1,60,054 PB to 1,94,774 PB, a 21.69% increase, emphasizing the escalating data consumption patterns.
  3. Telephone subscribers stood at 119.9 crore, up from 117.2 crore, demonstrating a growth of 2.30%.
  4. Average minutes of usage (MOUs) per subscriber rose from 919 to 963, revealing a trend in increased usage among subscribers.
  5. Adjusted gross revenue (AGR) saw an uplift from Rs 2,49,908 crore to Rs 2,70,504 crore, showcasing financial growth within the telecom sector.
